This isn't your typical referee, or playground whistle. This is designed to wake the dead. It doesn't have the BB inside, which I wish it had. I would say it would be good as a rescue whistle for camping, boating, etcetera, to get attention from a good distance. It sounds pathetic with a gentle puff, and really needs a good blow to activate it. I would say it's not a pleasant sound. The word banshee comes to mind.

It's a whistle. Bought it along with a few other products to use outdoors in the winter. Fairly effective. Volume control is limited with the pealess design. It's pretty loud. It suits most applications, but there are definitely cheaper alternatives. The blue version does not stand out in heavy grass. It's fun to be different sometimes, but consider the color if you intend to use it in certain places.
