It has a nominal (85%) filtration rating of 5 microns. The filter will reduce free available chlorine (FAC) at 2 parts per million (ppm) by at least 90% in up to 40,000 gallons at a flow rate of 4 gallons per minute (gpm). This cartridge is made of bonded powdered activated carbon (PAC) filter media wrapped in a polyolefin pre-filter with polyethylene outer netting. The nitrile butadiene rubber (Buna-N) gaskets seal the cartridge against the housing (sold separately). The cartridge has an initial pressure drop of 5.5 pounds per square inch (psi) at a flow rate of 5 gallons per minute (gpm), and operates over a temperature range of 40 to 180 degrees F (4.4 to 82.2 degrees C). This carbon block filter cartridge meets National Sanitation Foundation/American National Standards Institute (NSF/ANSI) standard 42 for quality assurance, and is used for purification of residential and commercial drinking water.SpecificationsNominal filtration rating 5 micronsInitial pressure drop at 5 gpm 5.5 psiChlorine reduction capacity 40,000 gallons at 4 gpmTemperature range 40 to 180 degrees F (4.4 to 82.2 degrees C)Maximum dimensions (H x W) 20 x 4-5/8 inches (508 x 118 mm)Materials certification NSF/ANSI standard 42The nominal filtration rating is for a particle removal efficiency of 85%. Used for about four months and still could smell and taste the chlorine in the water. Went back to the Matrikx 32-450-20, CTO2-HD-20 which has always done a much better job and is less expensive if you shop around.

I usually buy filtrex filters, thought I'd try this. Bad idea, this one's shot in two months. I get 10+ months out of filtrex radial flows.

I use this last in line after a sediment filter and water softener. Water tastes great now and with the other two devices I only change this filter twice a year and could probably stretch it farther, the sediment filter catches most of the stuff coming from my well.
