The original Fender switch wore out over time and became very wobbly. This one is very high quality and there is no wobble in the switch. I am very happy with it.

This was used on my 96 American Strat Plus Deluxe as the Oem switch. Because I use the neck pickup so often after 25 ish years the contacts stopped working correctly. The only better switch on the market IMO is the Schaler. Some people don't like the schaler due to its silky smooth action and prefer the more solid snap in position of the CRL switches, I get that but the schaler will outlast them all. And don't complain about using a German made switch on an American Fender since my Strat Plus Deluxe came factory installed with Schaler locking tuners and a Fender/Rose tremelo which I believe was also manufared by Schaler. Anyway the CLR is a great solid switch and I have them in several other Strats. Recommended.

Would definitely buy again if needed. Great replacement. It's more expensive than the other switches, but worth it.

Think about how many times you're going to be switching pickup positions, and it makes total sense to go with something of higher quality. The stock Fender stuff isn't close to this, and the Oak Grisbly switcher I had prior to purchasing this was “sticky” and wouldn't lock into the notched positions properly without drifting. It's double the price, but $20 is dirt cheap for an American made component that will have longevity and is top quality.

All of these type switches can be temperamental. The CRL switches seem to be the best value and I believe have a slightly shallower size than the other high quality brand, so they're less likely to require a deeper route.

It functions just fine, but came with no knob for the selector blade. It should have one, especially for 20$. (I'm currently using as small piece of surgical tape wrapped around the blade.) Other functionality just fine.

This switch is as durable as they come and is a joy to use on the guitar once installed. However, the particular switch I received didn't come with the caps/covers as I've seen in some of the other listings for this switch. I didn't realize this switch didn't come with the covers, otherwise I would have opted for another listing, but I don't hold this against the switch itself nor the reseller. The quality of the switch is great, the price is a little high, but fair, and the listing was accurate. Great switch and if you already have covers that fit, it's not an issue. None the covers from my Yamaha, Peaveys, or a few other Strat copies I have fit this switches post, the post on this switch is a little wider and I had to trim it down or would have had to buy a cover for it. CRL will be my go to when I need another 5 way.

I read the negative reviews and took them as seriously as possible, but after researching the WEB and looking at the switch from my MIM Fender Stratocaster, I decided that this CRL 5-way Blade Switch w/Mounting Screws was the way I wanted to try first. The old bad switch from my MIM Strat did NOT match ANY of the switches I researched, including the ones from Fender direct, (including the ones from Squire Strats). The old switch did have a spring in it, similar to this CRL, and I had read good things about this brand of switch. In a review, someone mentioned heating the contacts on the CRL and them falling apart, but unless you are using an arc welder the CRL is made well, and you shouldn't use a Weller 200 watt soldering iron to install parts in a guitar body anyway. I followed the Fender schematic EXACTLY, and even traced all of the wiring in the Strat to make sure I wired it properly, (with a 40 watt soldering iron), and the switch works perfect. After disassembling the old Fender switch, I saw that it had silver contacts which had oxidized and the contact points were pulling away from each other. The original was not impressive! The CRL is! I have been an experienced tech for over 35 years, and I found the transition easy, but if the OLD switch does not match the replacement, you need to be able to read schematics, (available from Fender's web site), to make sure you wire the replacement correctly. I am so glad I did not select the Fender OEM 5 way switch or the Oak Grigsby 5-way Blade Switch, because after my careful evaluation, I don't think they would be as good a switch as this CRL, (and Fender has used CRL switches in their strats in the past). Good stuff in my opinion!

This is the OEM part Fender uses so it is what I needed. I think the price is a few dollars more than need be, but I think it is a better switch than the newer brown Oak Grigsby.
