We're long time users of black beans, for everything from plain old bean soup to chili. We even use it for mock hummus. (Same recipe, just black beans instead of garbanzos.) While we have always cooked them from dried beans, sometimes we're in a hurry or just need a small amount for a recipe such as bean salad or our mock hummus. Bush's is a household name in America for beans, although most people think of baked beans in conjunction with their name. I like their beans because they don't add corn syrup in any form to the plain beans. (read your labels, most plain dried beans that have been canned have it added in, which is what gives the liquid in the can that thick consistency, I guess?) Bush's Best black beans are just black beans, water, and salt, so I can add my own touches without any problems. The beans are good--nobody can tell that I didn't use homemade and I can save immense amounts of time when preparing a recipe with these beans. Beans are an economical protein source, important when watching your budget. They don't deliver the bad stuff your doctors will tell you to avoid (other than the salt, but beans without salt is a nightmare!) They are gluten free. Your vegan friends can eat dinner with you. Kids usually love them, and having different color, sizes, flavor...keeps beans interesting. We use black beans often to replace other beans in recipes as well. We all know that beans are the magical fruit. They are also one of the Three Sisters. They are an American native that has been eagerly adopted around the world too. Growing beans is good for the land, as legumes fix nitrogen into the soil, enriching it. It's good for the environment because beans are 34;greener34; than meat, costing less in terms of water, fuel, and carbon footprint. They have fiber and vitamins not found in other foods. I am just glad to have found a brand of prepared black bean that is just the beans with water and salt, instead of a lot of things that I don't want to eat.
