Its a great game, but i wouldnt call it a family game, it has many components and takes too much time to learn, at first it was difficult and some found it very boring

This is a great twist on the Werewolf/Mafia style of game. Everyone having their own win conditions alleviates much of the problems that come from senseless accusations in other games. Great social dedication game to add to your collection!

For some reason, I was having a little trouble with the included instructions to this game. I have played many versions of the popular Werewolf type of games in the past, but this is pretty unique and so, I wanted to be sure that I was interpreting the rules correctly.I watched a couple of videos online and I was indeed understanding them correctly. This is a fun game. The addition of a central game board that changes during the overnight portion of the game, is intriguing. The first thing you want to do when you open your eyes is to check to see how the board changed since last time. It definitely adds to the game! I was a little confused that the title of this game isn't wolf of Mercia though. There is only one werewolf in this game. That is how much this diverges from the others. This game has cultists, a werewolf, and various other specific villagers all whom are trying to achieve their own objectives.Don't be fooled though. At its heart, this is a social deduction game. It just borrows some elements from other social deduction games and adds its own to create a game that reaches a higher level. Non-gamers or those who have never played a werewolf type of game might be confused at first. There really is no need for a moderator. One helpful video I watched online had someone record the moderator's counting on their phone and played it back during each night. This seemed like a great idea. The alternative is to count live while playing. But, that could make it more difficult for the moderator to focus on playing the game. The game's footprint is much smaller than I imagined. It is very portable and is just slightly larger than many of the other werewolf games out there. For some reason, I thought that it was a larger boxed game from the pictures in the description. In summary, if you like social deduction games, this is a step up from the norm. It is not a super long game and most often, you will find yourself playing multiple times in a row. It should be noted that the cards are larger than the average sized card. These are Tarot card sized. That's a good thing for those of us that need optical enhancement !A good time will be had by all!

Personally my favorite social deduction game, especially when compared to others like Secret Hitler or One Night Ultimate Werewolf, there's just a lot more going on and the game never gets stale. There is in fact A LOT of strategy to this game; you need to be able to manipulate other players to push your own agenda in order to win, and the Villager Cards will help achieve that goal. Each game will be completely different and unique, as the pairing of Villager Cards with Secret Cards keeps things fresh and exciting and can make winning that much easier or much more difficult. You have no idea which Secrets will be dealt in any particular game (besides the Werewolf and pre-determined number of Cultists), so it's best to learn as much about the other players as you can in order to win. The downside I've had with showing this to several different gaming groups is that it can be a little difficult to explain, but once everyone understands not only the rules but the strategies, it becomes so much fun. A quality of life improvement is that I always use a soundtrack (created by one of the awesome backers of Kickstarter) that calls out the Night Initiative numbers for you (available on Soundcloud; also comes with spooky music!). Overall a fantastic twist to the social deduction genre with asymmetric win conditions and variable gameplay.

We played a couple of times. Much more complex than a regular werewolf style game, but still easy to learn.

Fantastic game, it's better if someone knows the game beforehand. Adds an element to hidden role games that I think is needed.
