The sump is made of clear styrene-acrylonitrile (SAN) for on-site viewing of flow and cartridge condition, and the cap is made of reinforced blue polypropylene for strength and resistance to chemicals. The cap has 3/8\" female National Pipe Thread Taper (NPT) threaded input and output connections and a nitrile butadiene rubber (Buna-N) O-ring to ensure a watertight seal. The housing can be used with a 5\" x 2-1/2\" sediment or carbon filter cartridge (sold separately). It has an initial pressure drop of 2 pounds per square inch (psi) at a flow rate of 5 gallons per minute (gpm), a maximum operating pressure of 125 psi, and a maximum operating temperature of 125 degrees F (51.7 degrees C). This filter housing is for use in various applications, including residential drinking water filtration, food service, and humidifying systems, among others.SpecificationsFilter cartridge size (H x W) (sold separately) 5 x 2-1/2 inches (127 x 63.5 mm)Initial pressure drop at 5 gpm 2 psiMaximum temperature 125 degrees F (51.7 degrees C)Maximum pressure 125 psiMaximum dimensions (H x W) 7-3/8 x 4-5/8 inches (187 x 118 mm)H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.Water filters remove undesirable particles, chemicals, and microorganisms from water by means of a semipermeable barrier, adsorption, or biological processes. They are made of densely packed synthetic or natural fibers that trap suspended particles, materials that block microbes or adsorb unwanted chemicals, or substances that cause a chemical change, such as acid neutralization. For most residential, commercial, and industrial applications, water filters are manufactured in the form of replaceable cartridges that fit inside permanent housings. Filtration systems typically consist of a series of two or more types of filters, each designed to remove different contaminants. The performance of filters is measured by the minimum particle size that is blocked, the percentage of particles or microorganisms that are removed, the downstream concentration of unwanted chemicals, the maximum flow rate, and the amount of water that can be filtered before the filter must be replaced. I installed two of these 1/2 size filters under my kitchen sink to filter rust and sediment from my galvanized piping. The particles were accumulating in the plastic filter screens in the faucet, and resulted in a ruined faucet because of the stripped fine gage plastic threads on the faucet aerator and faucet spout. I purchased a new faucet and decided to install two Pentek 3/8" 1/2-height filters in the supply lines to ensure the new faucet would last.. I also installed two ball valves ahead of the filters and purchased 2 brackets to mount the filters on the side of the cabinet. I chose the 3/8" filter housing over the standard 1/4" housing to minimize pressure loss. Two pieces of advice: Purchase a filter wrench and purchase a tube of silicone grease approved for contact with potable water...it'll make maintenance a lot easier.
I also laid in a good supply of coarse polypropylene filters (they're cheap).
The arrangement has worked wonderfully. Although the filter is not rated for hot water, the filter housing has worked well with 120 degree water. I have been pleased with the quality and performance of the product..

we use these little beauties at work, I wont mention the food processing plant they are used in but 8 of our 12 ovens have these equipped and I service them on a monthly schedule. They filter out the finest particals despite our larger filters, the outsides of these filters are crusted monthly but insides are clean as day one! Mind you this is 24/7 operation where humidity and wayer quality is AAA standard so I trust these so much that I am buying one for my house filtration and a second for a prefilter for my hobby where any impure water could cost me $500+ in the blink of an eye. The upside is that pentek filters are cheap! AND you can buy filters depending on your needs!
