Hi all, I've had my ice cream maker for several months now, and it works perfectly every time. Ive tried several variations of vanilla and strawberry and chocolate and it stops in around 30 to 40 minutes with great results! After at least a dozen batches its goin strong. The machine and several parts are either encased in plastic or made of plastic but that doesnt seem to keep it from working well. The actual ice cream container is aluminum and that helps cool the liquid cream mixture quickly in the freezer or fridge before adding the ice and rock salt. I have settled on a delicious and simple recipe for vanilla that is so quick and easy here it is: 3 pints half and half 1 pint heavy whipping cream 2 (or up to 2 1/2) cups sugar a dash of salt 5 tsp. vanilla I heat the 1st four ingredients on med heat stirring slowly til just long enough to melt the sugar. Pour into the aluminum tank with lid and into the freezer for less than an hour to chill but not freeze, then add the vanilla. Then be sure to put in the paddle that stirs the ice cream! I use 1 10lb bag of ice and part of one 4lb box of rock salt, just alternate 2-3 inches of ice and a heavy sprinkling of the salt between layers and itll take 3-4 layers to get up to the top of the mixer then plug in and listen for it to slow and stop for 30-40 mins, adding a bit of ice and salt if the level drops. It so exciting to unplug and pull the lid off when it stops turning and find that awesome soft homemade ice cream! Leaving it in the mixer w the ice for a while hardens it more and also moving it to the freezer after will harden it overnite. Enjoy! We love ours!
