For the price, this thing rocks. I never had made ice cream at home before, and decided to get this model as my first ice cream maker. The ice cream this thing makes is fantastic.just so you know though:1. you will need to buy a bag of ice when you decide to make this.2. i usually used up 3/4 to a full can of salt each time i make this.3. i normally made 2 quarts, and it seems to finish within 40 mins. i only made 4 quarts once, and it seemed to never technically finish, i just ended it once all the ice was melted.i also made this in the garage, so i didn't have to listen to the machine. If you intend on running this in the house, it might be a tad on the loud side for you.i used this to make about 20+ batches of 2 quart ice creams over the course of 1 1/2 years, and the engine sounds just as powerful as the first day i got it.if your looking for a first time ice cream maker, i highly recommend this, specially if your the type that wants to make a huge amount only once in awhile. if your the type that wants to make smaller portions more often, then i would recommend getting one of the Cuisinart ice cream makers.i have just recently moved on to the Cuisinart Pure Indulgence 2qt ice cream maker, and it is much simpler to use (almost too ez) Cuisinart Pure IndulgenceTM 2 Qt. Ice Cream-frozen Yogurt & Sorbet Maker
