I love this product, it's a great workout punching Bob. Filled with sand it does move some, but not much, on a concrete floor. My only issue is that it was not shipped with a cap for the base (to cover where you fill the base). I contacted century and was informed I had to purchase a cap, when I had already paid over $200 for the item!

I'm a big, lumbering, 6'4, 270 pounder. Not 'quick' by any means, but I do throw very hard punches that move mountains.Watched a few videos of this on youtube, average sized guys working it hard and the BOB unit wasn't budging. There were also some videos of guys 'showing off' at how presumably harcore they were for knocking one over with a huge running kick. Could it truly be stable enough to withstand repeated, full power striking from a heavyweight? I was really hoping that to be the case, since I live in an apartment and a 'rocking back and forth' base wouldn't be acceptable to downstairs neighbors.Got it, filled it with a water/sand mixture for max weight (it is heavy as heck) but intuitively I just wasn't seeing it staying put to a hard punch, given the mechanical advantages involved with that narrow and round base, the long, tall body unit. Sure enough, no sooner than I laid a medium straight right on it, the base instantly tilted up from the floor and the whole unit started wobbling pretty good, which probably sounded like thunder to the poor people downstairs.Still, that aside, I do rate this pretty high.I now use it more for speed type work and striking accuracy practice that doesn't involve hitting hard enough to move the base, then just use a heavy bag at the gym for power striking. The result of having this in my living room and using it for striking accuracy is that my striking accuracy has gotten insanely better. So, overall, 4 stars of 5. I deduct the one star since I think they should probably be a bit more forthcoming with the facts for us big guys, if you're over 200 and/or a powerful striker you're going to wobble it but as a training tool, it's pretty damn good.

It's like kicking a human in the head but I can do it as hard as I want, that's enough for me. I also don't have issues with him falling apart or jumping across the room like all these other people say they do. I think the problem with their Bob is that he's been training with sissy boys and became one himself.

I got the original BOB about 2 years ago. It was one of the best investments I've ever made. The problem with normal bags is that you don't get the experience of strikiing an actual opponent's chin, nose, solarplexus, and so forth. Striking a big cylinder is a different experience; good for building power and form, but it always left me wondering whether I would actually be able to pinpoint my targets "when the time comes".After savagely beating my BOB for 2 years, I know I am totally capable of blasting a human opponent with high precision powerful strikes. I have trained combinations of all kinds of strikes, on all the key targets. There is no substitute for training with BOB.I have sparred, and I would say to new people that you don't know fighting if you haven't sparred, because 80% of fighting is the dynamic of movement and defense, so no stationary object will totally prepare you. But, hitting a lifelike opponent regularly is as good as it gets. You have to fill it with sand. Wet sand. Water is not heavy enough. Even with sand, it will slide a bit on wood, but it is fine. It will tip over with heavy front kicks.I recently bought the new BOB, and it is superior to the original style. The skin seems better somehow, and the thing seems firmer, the overall shape is better. I'm hoping that the new mounting hardware holds up better, because the bolts on the back of my first one tore through the rubber within a month, so I had to try to glue the body onto its pole.It lasted a couple years like that, until the throat finally tore open. The new one has two sets of bolts instead of one; after 3 hours of training, so far so good.

Bad Ass Bob takes most hits like a champ! The only downside of this dummy would its inability to take serious power strikes or kicks. The first back kick drove this dummy half-way across my basement despite being full of water. Overall it was easy to put together and the quality is very good.

I purchased this item to add variety to my workout. I'm really enjoying the diversity it adds but wish the screws to secure the torso to the post was better. I put on my favorite music and punch to the beat. Sometime during the 3rd song, I hear a screw fall out. I have to stop the wonderful rhythm and sweating I've got going, take off my gloves, find the screwdriver and replace the screws. I also have to re-tighten all the others because they're getting ready to fall out too. This is irritating but, I enjoy punching this guy so much that I will keep him. I just chalk the loose screws up to me having a more powerful punch than I realized. Also, you may need a 2nd person to help secure bob to the post as it's very difficult to hold the torso in place and screw the screws in at the same time.I had no problem filling the base with sand because I had a plastic container, that after cutting a hole in the bottom to match the fill hole, made it very quick and easy. Bob is sitting on a small rug in my garage and stays in place, waiting for his next punch.

I bought this for my fiance for Christmas. It has become his favorite workout companion. Our children also enjoy being allowed to beat the crap out of something without getting in trouble. I have swung a few times...but I'm a feable woman. :)

My son loves this, even though you can hear the echoing when he punches the living crap out of this, he is having fun with his workouts...which is important. We have this on our basement, filled with water at the base and have no problems with it so far. It seems sturdy, the rubber top is great for punching and kicking without worrying about injuring your hands or feet. It was extremely easy to assemble and this will last for a while. If you are looking for something to build your upper body, this is a great idea. It will give also give you the benefits of cardio while sparring with this. I am happy with this purchase.

I've had this for about a month and I am pleased with it so far except the fact that 1 of the 6 screws that hold the body to the stand keeps popping out when I try to practice throwing knees to the side of the body. I'm going to try using some loctite thread locker to see if that corrects the problem. As for the product otherwise I'm very pleased. I had to wrestle with it a little to get the screws to line up to attach the body and I filled it with over 200 pounds of sand which took about 3 hours but after all that it's exactly what I expected to be. A human looking punching bag that's a good workout and fun to hit. I've seen other models that only have 2 screws in back, which is what I would have gotten had I known beforehand how this thing mounts up but it's working fine so far. I really like that you can adjust the hieght and that it's quick and easy to do so.After using some loctite on the loose screw I no longer have the problem with it popping out. I use this product about 3 times a week now and it's holding up pretty well. I would recommend this punching bag to anyone in the marke for one.

Poor Bob. He takes so much abuse. But he handles the fists, elbows, and knees like a champ. He's been a lot of fun to work with and I found the construction to be of very high quality and versatile with the ability to add water or sand to the base. If you're into martial arts, Bob is worth the money.

Ok I got this a year ago and didn't feel I could give a review until I put it through some time and use. I was looking to add to my gym 20 years hitting heavy bags 100lbs - 200lbs I wanted to add a new element to my mma training. This isn't bad but no alternative to the heavy bag you will knock this thing clear over. Don't exchange your tried and true heavy bag for this it's a nice addition though. This is best for concentrated strikes muay thai training knees, elbows etc. and taking it off the stand and doing ground and pound work. They claim 270lbs but it's very top light. I give this a 5 star anyway for the whole idea, also mixed martial arts positional striking training very useful. I wouldn't spend over 150 on this though.

We have three of these "Century BOB" bags at our Dojang and, next to sparring, working out on these is often the high point of my class. The ability to strike a realistic human form at full force is the best way to reinforce a new technique or to try out a combination for practicality. The upper section is the human form (without arms) and is fairly realistic in size and mass of an adult male. The height is easily adjustable on the stand to simulate a range of sizes, from short to tall. The bottom section is a hollow base that can be filled with sand (recommended) or water and weighs over 250lbs when full. It is still fairly easy to move around by tilting and rolling it.Using the BOB (an acronym for "Body Opponent Bag") is easy once you get used to the idiosyncrasies, like it moving and rocking when hit (watch your toes under the base if doing close work), and the lack of arms, legs, or groin striking areas. We actually attach a kick shield, like Ultimate Kick Shield, to shaft (tied with a belt by the handles) and it does a great job of covering the base, allowing for knee strikes and lower kicks. This is a great "focus" target for working on accuracy and strikes that need human anatomy to perfect (uppercuts, neck chops, headbutts, palm heal chin ose strikes, etc), but does not replace the heavy bag for general kicking and punching workouts. These have taken some serious beatings and have held up very well.Highly RecommendedCFH

I have a BOB and regularly use one in my martial arts class. Some observations:1. Great visual trainer2. Fun to hit such a mean looking guy3. Very durable. The rubber is almost indestructible. The one in our class still looks brand new even after all the pounding. The attachment to the base did break however. Bob is now stuck at the lowest height setting.4. Reasonably stable base when filled with water. However, when Bob is raised high, it does tend to be a bit tippy. Why only 4 stars? Bob's skin texture is rubbery and catches sometimes. When you hit, the rubber cause friction with your glove/skin. Forget even light punching without gloves. The skin on your knuckle will damage very quickly. Even with gloves, there is still more friction than with a typical bag. I find that my hands and wrist fatigue a bit quicker. Probably not great over long periods of training. I use Bob mainly for targeting specific body parts, but for the rest of my work out, I prefer a regular heavy bag or a wavemaster.

First off, I like and respect the folks at Century. Their products are innovative, they are always working to improve them, and they care about customer service. I bought BOB because I was tired of some of the flaws of my Wavemaster bag, and because BOB just looked like fun. He was. He offers a surprising amount of resistance, so he helps you develop your power, and he offers targets for those exotic shots: head butts (careful), throat strikes, eye gouges. But . . . I hadn't had BOB for even two years before I started to literally tear his head off. Now, I am not a young man, I am not a big man, and though I have martial arts training, I haven't put my fist through any brick walls lately. I didn't even work out with BOB every day. But I figure a couple more sessions and I will have completely decapitated him. A crack extends from his chin to the back of his neck on the right side. His noggin flops around and the stuffing flies out with every strike. I liked BOB as a training tool, but for the money, he should last longer. Caveat emptor.

I shopped around for the BOB and bought in on sale for 200 dollars at sports chalet. I'm an amateur boxer and have switched from hitting the heavy bag to BOB. In my opinion BOB gives a much better, realistic workout then the bag. You can aim for the nose, chin, jaw, temple, liver, etc. Its a lot of fun and will make you a much better striker. I'm starting to see BOB now at most boxing and Martial arts studios. Its a great product.

I love the realistic nature of Bob, which offers a great way to practice techniques in as true to life form as possible. To-date, Bob has proven to be very good at both resistance and durability. The only reasons for going with 4 vs. 5 stars is stability. Even when Bob is full of water, he still bounces around the room too much.As for hand protection, you'd want to use hand-wraps or gloves. Going bear hands for any significant period of time will result in a bloody Bob (your blood), so while it's a good real life training mode for every now and then, hands-wraps will get you more mileage.Bottom line, even with it's bouncing around, Bob is a great training mate.

Bob is a great and fun way to work out. So far he seems really tough and shows no signs of wear. I filled the base with water and found that he scoots around and rotates and you have to stop your workout to reposition him. Now I am stuck with the delema of draining the water to put in sand. I recommend that you start by taking the extra time to put in sand instead of water from the start. Aside from that, this thing is really a fun way to work out. I totally disagree with the first review that no hand protection is needed. You definately should get heavy bag gloves unless you want to criple yourself. Don't plan on putting Bob in a room that is used regularly by your family. He can freak out your kids and wife as he looks pretty scary. He lasted less than a day on the main level of my house before being banished to the storage room which is now my work-out room. Think you can get away with it by putting a blanket over him? Think about it - now you have a nightmare inspiring ghost.Update: 2 years later and Bob is on his last leg. Head is coming off and there is a tear on is jaw. I still beat on him regularly and enjoy it, but the manufacturer needs to strengthen the neck and face with thicker skin. I still give him 5 stars because I am in great shape and pack a mean punch thanks to Bob. Way more fun than a heavy bag. I will buy another when the head comes off.
