In order to save time and still have a great work out, I created a bedroom into a gym. I used to love hitting the bag at my local gym and since I no longer went there, I decided to buy a B.O.B. Hitting B.O.B feels good, getting aggression out and breaking a sweat. It does what I needed it to do so for that it gets 3 stars. The only issues I have is weighing it down with sand and also the noise it makes when I hit it hard. Trying to put sand in the B.O.B, was a mess and took about 3 hours. It has a small hole which you need to funnel in four 50lbs sand bags. Until I got my rhythm and proper method it was just time consuming. The noise come from me hitting the bag so hard it lifts up a bit and slams down on the floor. Unfortunately I live on a third floor apt so my concern for my neighbors downstairs makes me hesitate hitting it hard. I added a workout mat which helps reduce the noise. I work out in the morning and it's been 3 weeks and no complaints, which is good. I wouldn't recommend working out in the evening if you live in the same situations as I do. Unless you hate your neighbors. Overall B.O.B. is a good buy just expect to spend sometime preparing it.

I have two issues, first issue: like a prior reviewer I also received the base and had to wait an additional week for the X-large top, that being said, I do have to admit that the customer service was quick and helpful in their response once contacted. Second issue: the head is a little softer than I would have liked, it yields too easily to semi-hard punches and kicks, granted I don't need to punch a brick but something that simulates the density (at least partially) of an actual head would be nice. When practicing full contact the heavy bag still wins out, but this product cannot be beat for pin point training accuracy. It is a great addition to any gym it definitely beats drawing a head and body on a heavy bag. I would also like to mention that filling the base with sand is the way to go, it will still wobble and give you an initial fright that it will tip over, so I can't imagine what would happen with its base filled with water. Despite the above mentioned issues I still like the X-large body opponent so much that I am giving it 4 out of the 5 stars. It is truly great for combinations once you get used to the soft head

Despite not being a traditional heavy bag, this thing takes some serious abuse and without wobble problems. The shape makes it different from a normal heavy bag by forcing you to be more accurate with your strikes. The fact that it's adjustable means you can practice on opponents of different heights. The only drawbacks: you cannot throw leg kicks; the base makes knee strikes too awkward; he is so barrel-chested that it makes uppercuts difficult; and your hands get torn up after a few rounds if you're not wearing gloves (especially closed-fist hooks and liver shots).I've been practicing with Bob XL for 2 weeks, and I love it. The benefit of training with a realistic opponent outweighs any disadvantages it has compared to heavy bags, although it's best to practice on both. I leave the base in the back yard (230 lbs of sand), and keep Bob inside when he's not being used. My friends like to play dress up with him. For an accompanying fitness program, I recommend Bas Rutten's MMA Workout.

Same problem here. Received the bottom only, body was missing. Staples were removed from one side of the box and opened part was fixed with tape. Shipping weight on the UPS label was only 18 lbs instead of 47 lbs in product description.1 star because manufacturer should improve the package (make it partly transparent for example) to avoid part theft by dealers.

PROS: good size, adjustable height, good base, very good for kicking, looks funny.CONS: too soft, you have to be very close from it in order to feel that youre punching it hard, and filling it with water doesnt make it all that stable, im a 5,11" guy, 198 pounds and when i punch it on the torso i see mi hand going in about 3 inches, and thats because i have the base full of water instead of sand, the nose of the bob is a little too hard to punch it without gloves for more than 10 minutes and whenever a trow a power hook to the head the head of the bob bends almost on a 45 degree angle, so it offers little resistance to power punches.Overall a very good product for kicking and acurate punching, but as other reviewer said, it is no substitute for a heavy bag.

The xl BOB arrived with no damage and no delay in delivery. It truly is everything as advertised. The best thing I like is that my wife is 5'7" and I'm 6'4" and we can both adjust it to our height for workouts. No problems yet... thanks and enjoy.

This is my third punching bag and by far the best. I competed in thai boxing matches for 7 years and now moved to a university with no gym and no sparring partners available. So the next best thing is Bob in my opinion. A hanging heavy bag might be better for power, however for most people living in an apartment or renting this is not realistic. Bob does hold up fairly well to power strikes and kicks to the lower region. A FEW TIPS THOUGH: Fill the base with pebble stones instead of sand or water and under the stand put a rubber bathtub mat or gym mat. Also I added a blanket under the stand to avoid noise complaints when the stand comes up and slams on the floor with power punches. I love hitting this bag and the sculpted face and body are a lot more fun for precision practice then a bag. Really good product and I would recommend this to anyone who would like to exercise and practice at home.

I already had several heavy bags so I didn't need another one. THe BOB (Body Oppenent Bag) is great for practicing a wide variety of combative moves. Forearm strikes, groin strikes/kicks, eye gouging/raking, palm heel strikes to the nose or chin, palm strikes to ears, strikes to throat, hooks and upper cuts, chokes, and a lot more. I also practice with my fighting sticks on BOB. Or course you can do most of these strikes, kicks, and punches on a heavy bag too. But the BOB gives you a chance to see if your moves are accurate. Plus you can make BOB shorter or taller. I found that filling BOB's base with sand was the best for the way we use him. Water filled base did not give us the stability we wanted. It seems to me that these new BOBs are a bit more sturdy than the original versions. I wouldn't use a BOB to replace my heavy bags...BUT it is a great additon.

If you are looking for a good punching bag this is not it. However, if you are looking for something to practice your grab, strikes this is perfect. It rock back and forth as you hit it. Although is 270pounds, it will move!

Century? Body Opponent Freestanding Heavy Bag, XLI bought this for my husband and he loves it. Very fast shipping and well packaged. This dummy is heavier and sturdier than some others, so my husband likes it better than the one he uses at his Tai Chi class.

Purchased bob to replace a weather-worn wavemaster xxl. I'm glad I went this route. Hitting bob is a completely different experience. It allows you to really aim your strikes at specific body parts. This is a big improvement in practicing techniques over a simple bag like the wavemaster. I loved the wavemaster, but this adds another dimension to training. Practicing krav maga, we use a lot of strikes that would be illegal in other disciplines, such as eye gouging, groin strikes, throat punches, etc. BOB is great for working these techniques. The body is a bit heavy when you hit the ribs, and is tough on the wrists, but otherwise it's great. Very heavy, so it moves somewhat when you hit it but doesn't get out of control.

I searched the Internet for weeks looking for a freestanding punch bag, I wanted a human shaped bag because it allowed me to practice strikes to vital areas of the body, one of my friends has a human shaped bag made of hard plastic which hurts a lot when you punch it and I was a little worried this bag would be the same.I checked out some You Tube clips of the Bob bag and it looked really good so I made a purchase, the Bob bag arrived in 4 days. The Bob bag is very broad like a heavyweight boxer, much wider than I expected, when you stand face to face with Bob psychologically because of its size, build and angry face it feels more like you are going into a fight with someone way more powerful than you, which I guess at 6 feet and 300 pounds with no fat would be true.Bobs skin is really weird, it does not feel like rubber but feels very similar to human flesh, it's soft like ballistics gel but flexes like rubber,it doesn't have the horrible dirty rubber smell, Bobs muscles are also really weird, I thought from the photos they were just little indentations but its a full mold with the muscle sticking out very realistically like someone had just painted a bodybuilder pink. When my dog first saw Bob he thought it was real person, starting barking at it and biting its torso,so he wasn't the only dummy in the room but once he got a sniff he knew it was real.Bob was comfortable enough for me to punch without the gloves and I am not a boxer. I adjusted Bob to the full 6 feet in height and one thing that I thought was great is that the dummy doesn't rattle as the torso fits perfectly into the stand. The gloves that came with bob had gel filled knuckles; they look cheap but are very comfortable and allow your hands to breath in long work outs. The first time I stood bob up I just had to lay into him, I struck his nose which moves with the strike, and it doesnt chip or warp, when you punch him in the stomach you can feel the strike be absorbed by the surrounding material, its exactly like the density and feel of striking a real torso and doesnt have any nasty screws or hard pieces inside to break your hand. I gave Bob an uppercut to his chin, I expected his head to fly backwards but it moves back only slightly, just like it does on a real person. I decided to then choke him with a rear naked choke, by then I was just having so much fun strangling him I just started laughing at the way his head bends.Kicks to Bob were easy, the base doesn't get in the way so you don't get caught when you move in close, so if you like kicking you're in luck, the fact that bob has no legs wasn't a problem at all if you're really picky about it you can just wrap the base with pillows. The XL bob comes with the groin; it's just a pair of shorts not a separate attachment, not that type of doll. The Groin area is great for practicing knee kicks, useful if someone strong grabs you.I read that Bob tends to tip over when you punch him, this is generally because some people shove when they punch, anyway I filled my Bob with rocks and placed a rubber bath mat under the stand this way Bob is really heavy and doesn't mark the floor. I can punch Bob, choke him and even try and take him down to the ground.Because of Bobs light colour he gets dirty, it's not a problem because of his smooth surface dirt doesn't stick well to him, washing him with a cloth and water does the trick every time.I am really glad I purchased Bob. Overall really great fun, a weird item in a good way, I had a good laugh with this. I tend to be really picky about things but this is one of those products that you buy and recommend to everyone.

This Bob comes with a groin and this makes all the difference. When in a fight if your opponent is a male if you strike him hard in the groin you will weaken him greatly. Then punch him in the nose very hard, repeatedly. As a Bob, I am not offended by this product because there are evil Bobs in the world in addition to good ones like myself. Liberate your mind from victim psychology and train hard.

I use my Bob XL as part of my cardio fitness routine. It's very easy to raise your heart rate with fast punches and combos to poor old Bob.Mine is located in the garage and is filled with sand and then when i couldn't fit any more sand in i topped off with water. Took a good 2 hours to fill with sand due to the small fill cap, would have been easier if i had had dry, free flowing sand.It is extremely heavy, i can barely push it along the floor so i wouldn't recommend it if you need to regularly move it out of the way. I weigh 215 lbs, can bench 315lbs and I can't get it to budge with hard punches. It sits on a concrete floor, may be different on a polished wood surface. I recommend this model over the standard Bob, it's heavier and has more target areas to hit.I would advise wearing bag mitts when hitting Bob with any force, especially due to the moulding of the face it is easy to bruise knuckles. If you are into martial arts/boxing then nothing can replace a decent heavy punch bag for developing punch power but for average hitters like myself or for those who need a quality fitness workout then the Bob Xl comes highly recommended!

I like practicing with it .... what's even more fun, is I put a shirt on it to protect it from practice-knife strikes, and I keep it in the garage right next to the kitchen door .... soooooo..... everyone who comes over has to, at least once, "go into the garage and grab us a couple of beers" ... It scares the be-jesus out of them! It still scares me when I go in there to practice with it!

I purchased the body opponent bag (not the XL) to provide motivation and to compare its function to my old reliable heavy bag...BOB is terrific...however, whereas the heavybag is solidly hit when struck, BOB requires a little more finesse...the head gives easily and does not provide the resistance of a heavy bag...but this is good! Additionally, there is at least one DVD available which provides other methods of attack. I find I can practice choke outs on BOB. Overall, I would highly recommend BOB as a tool to add to your boxing/self defense/exercise regimen. (This review was not based on the XL. I would prefer to have the XL, however the guy without the trunks was more affordable!)Reviewer's boxing experience: 40 years

I own two of these BOB's (Body Opponent Bag) one BOB & one BOB XL. They are great to practice striking specific areas of the body at full power and speed. BOB is a great addition to the heavy bag or better yet Muay Thai bag that every martial artist should own and practice techniques against. The BOB XL allows strikes to the upper leg area with kicks, knees and batons for police academy recruit training. The only limit is working the body all the way around 360 degrees, you can not work the rear body, but can work the rear of the head for chokes and strikes.

Overall a well designed and well made product. The torso is pretty solid for kicks and punches. The head is a little to floppy for good resistance, but is a good target for practicing precise punching. When the base is filled with water it takes a whole lot of energy to knock it over. And as a bonus it freaks people out if you put him just around a corner.
