This solid brass mailbox has surprisingly stout construction. The sheet metal mics 0.038 thick, and the hinge installation is nearly indestructible. The 4 mounting screw holes are reasonably accessible, so hanging it is not a major project. The large size will easily accommodate magazines, small packages, etc without them getting mangled. The heavy lid is balanced to close on it's own, so it can't be accidentally left open to the elements.I really like the weathered patina, but with it being solid brass, you could polish it with Brasso if you wanted it bright. There's an optional brass plate included so that you can blank out the grill, but that didn't look as good, so I installed a piece of black aluminum instead. This makes it look like the grill is still open, but mail doesn't show to passersby, and my mail stays dry when it's raining.I spent a lot of time looking for just the right mailbox for my renovated house, and I could not be happier with this.

This mailbox is beautiful. The color is perfect and it's very heavy. We needed to install it on brick. We decided to attach a wood panel to the house first then attach the mailbox to the wood. It worked out perfectly. If you want a mailbox that will hold up to just about anything, don't hesitate to purchase this one.
