Totally cleans up ear piercing brightness and has amazing low end. Put in a 64 Deluxe reverb HW and it transformed the amp. Great all around speaker!

I have a few G12-65s from 1980 and bought a new one this year to see if it sounds just as good. Although it looks exactly the same, if you want to match the tone of the same speaker made forty years ago, it's not going to happen. At least not while it's new. It's possible it is exactly the same construction and needs to be broken in over time. The new one was missing the bright end. I kind of think the overall tone was close to matching the old one, but the crisp, bright high end was not there, at least not out of the box and after playing it about 20 hours over six months. I tried to compensate by bringing up the treble on the amp (I play through a Marshall with lots of overdrive), but the high end forced through by the amp just wasn't as good as the natural high end I was hoping the speaker itself had. If anyone has been playing one of these for a few years and thinks the tone definitely improves over time, I'd be grateful if you'd let me/others know.

I have several Marshall cabinets loaded with these, and they sound great with Marshall amps, like JCM 800 and JMP models. However, I placed them in my 1970 Fender Twin Reverb amp, and quickly removed them. I know Robben Ford uses them in Fender Twins, but I don't like the sound at all in Fender amps. Loses too many highs / detail in the high end. Just doesn't sound like a Fender amp any more -- too stuffy / dark. The ceramic stock Fender speakers sounded way better to me, and sounded like a Fender Twin should . Remember that these are relatively dark speakers, designed to tame the very bright Marshall amps they were mated with. Apparently, a lot of people do like the sound of these in Fender amps, but I can't hear why. They make a Fender no longer sound like a Fender. Also, remember that Fender amps emphasize even-order harmonics, and Marshall emphasizes odd-order harmonics. This is important in mating the speaker with the amp. The Celestion G1265 was never meant for Fender amps, and I don't like them there, they were meant for very bright circuit Marshall and similar amps, and they sound superb there.
