It serves its purpose except, unfortunately, it can trap snakes. I found 4 dead gopher snakes in it yesterday ...broke my heart...I'm sure similar competing products made with fine nylon mesh pose the same lethal hazard to wildlife in the area. I disposed of it in a manner which will pose no threat to Wildlife.

I used this product to stabilize a barren hillside and it survived long enough to allow additional plant material to grow and stop any erosion.

We used this for erosion control on a new lawn that had a sharp slope. The grass grew up through it great. As a matter of fact the grass grew better and came in thicker on the mat than it did on the flat areas of the lawn that didn't have it. You can't see the mat at all as it's covered by the green grass. Now we'll see if it works and holds the slope through the next wet spring. If it does, then the roots should have established themselves enough to hold it on it's own. Not going to remove it, I'll just let it decompose as I won't be mowing that slope. Will have to wait a few months for the final review... So far it's great!

Held the grass seed down well enough on the hillsides to allow for good germination. Costs less than the jute matting but was harder to unroll and the plastic mesh stuck to my athletic shoes which kept pulling up the mesh. Had to wear smooth soled shoes to apply. Also some of the mesh had almost no straw attached so had to buy some straw to fill in. I haven't noticed any small animals or snakes caught in it as others have noted. After a few waterings the straw and mesh lay flat to the hillside but the plastic netting around the edges still liked to stand up even after extra landscaping pins used to hold down. Ended up trimming away the worst of it before mowing.

I figured the straw would be pretty sparse in the netting but I was very wrong. Super happy with the purchase. Used it on a hillside for erosion control. So far it's protected the rye seeds very well and is keeping the ground surprisingly damp....Perfect
