Note: The fire bases invert partially up into the bottom of our kettles to make the unit as compact as possible for transporting and storage. Normally, the fire base will not invert fully up into the kettle. This is particularly evident with the Medium size kettle. Never force the inverted base up into the kettle to try and achieve a "Perfect Fit". This may cause damage to the kettle or result in the base becoming stuck within the kettle.

There is a reason this old idea is still in production. It works! I take it car camping on fishing trips and wouldn't want to go without it.

Perfect for canoe camping or stationary base camping but a little big for backpacking. The small one might work as a backpacking stove but there are too many good stand-alone stoves that would be more convenient. Using the kettle requires a water source but you can use the base unit alone to cook on.

Just like every person in the wilderness should have several ways for creating fire, so should they also have several ways of purifying water. To not have one of these to fall-back on or actually primarily rely on could be devestating in a post-EMP world. So every kit should always have a Kelly Kettle in it, in my opinion. And so buy one now while you still can, is my advice.
