I bought several of these for my sister because she wanted to have functional lanterns to use for decoration and actual use during power outages and she really likes these lanterns.

I bought a set of four, to replace an actual red antique lantern that no longer seems safe to use because the lamp oil would leak. These new lanterns are fantastic! I love the classic look, and they are very well-made.

This is a very low quality product. But it works, There is one draw back. Make sure to check for leaks after filling tank. Sit it on paper towels for a fuew hours or over night. To make sure there is no leaks.Mine leaks if I top it off to the neck.I wouldn't go past the fill line.On the other hand it works well. I usually take it with me when I go fishing.

The paint on this thing is probably thicker than the metal used to make it. It's cheap so you get what you pay for.

Very difficult to monitor level when filling. Spilling is also likely to happen when pouring from a container.Solution: Carefully fill with rubbing alcohol to proper level that sticker indicates. Pour (remaining) alcohol into a suitable container. Let the lantern sit for a time to monitor for leaking. If lantern does not leak, pour alcohol back into the alcohol bottle. Mark the level for future quantity needed for refueling the lantern. This bottle is now marked for rapidly filling your lantern without trial and error.Go one step more and drill a hole in the alcohol cap. Friction fit a silicone hose. Fill the bottle to the previously marked level. Put the hose into the lantern fill opening, squeeze bottle and siphon entire contents into lantern. No muss no fuss. Elevate bottle 3” to expedite transfer. OR just use a funnel.BE SAFE AND RESEARCH DANGERS BETWEEN FUEL, CONTAINER AND HOSE.Note: Or use a see through flexible bottle and another lantern fuel compatible liquid. Slightly loosen the lid to allow air to enter bottle while siphoning. Silicon hose is usually kept at hobby stores, sold by the foot.

Lantern looks good, works good (with a few quirks - read below). But the one thing that you feel right away is the lightweight delicate build quality. This is definitely not for rough or rugged use. Nothing has broken so far but then I have used it very gently. My biggest gripe with this is that its really hard to figure out where the oil level is with respect to the "fill line". And if you overfill it (which you will) the oil seeps out from the bottom of the fill hole. This oil leak is an unforgiveable defect!Couple of other things that take the points away from this product are its flimsy fit of the glass with the top of the lantern. You know how the glass is to be moved up and down to light the wick - when you set the glass back down the top doesn't quite fall into place perfectly with the part of the lantern at the top that it goes into. It needs some help to seat right. This is again dangerous because if the glass and lantern have heated up already you can burn your hands or fingers! Another unacceptable flaw. The material of the rest of the lantern and the glass too is very conductive of heat. It heats up rapdily. So be careful when handling it.Finally, the oil fill cap too needs help to seat correctly and seal the fill hole properly. There is a rubber washer in there that needs to align properly. All in all flimsy fit and build quality.Actually when I started writing this review I had given this a 4 star but now I realize this cant be more than 3 stars!

I have a number of "cold blast" hurricane style lanterns. I got these since I didn't want my Feuerhand or WR Kirkman lanterns to get rusty in the tropical environment outside and these are certainly inexpensive. They have 5/8" wicks and are decently made. The glass is thin but arrived intact in Puerto Rico. The metal is thin. However, they just don't burn right. What would be a nice normal sized flame with no soot in a Feuerhand or Kirkman Champion lantern makes the wick burn down on these. There is science behind the proven models, which were and are state-of-the art for portable kerosene lamps. I think the airflow is just off and it was not designed based on any actual studies in airflow. It is also seriously affected by breeze. Spend a little more and get a Kirkman, Dietz, or Feuerhand. You'll be rewarded with a nice white flame, no soot when adjusted properly, and no wick burning. I especially like the Kirkman lanterns, Champion and Little Champ-- they are based on proven Dietz designs and have nice THICK glass and many options in glass color. I once again learned the lesson, "buy cheap, buy twice."
