It looks like a big nylon hat with a wire at the base. Covers an 8 inch ceiling speaker with no issues. It will definitely keep debris out of the speaker as advertised.

These seem to be expensive considering they are sold individually. Just to keep insulation and dust off the back of a speaker a foil baking pan would probably work just as well. I opted to mod baffles for car speakers for my in ceiling installs.

Used on 8”ceiling speakers. The spring steel cuffs easily popped throw ceiling opening and expanded keeping blown insulation at bay.

These are very large for most speakers, but this is not a problem as you can tie them around the speakers with some wires or strings to ensure dust tight fit. This is an essential speaker protection for in ceiling speakers, especially with blown in insulation.

I installed in-ceiling speakers and needed a way to protect the speakers from all the insulation in the attic. This was a perfect solution to that problem. I just wished that they sold these in pairs because it's actually quite expensive for what it does. To make these things were probably just a few cents to make. They're making a killing!

These things are great! When I first opened the package, I'll admit that I was a bit disappointed. They seemed very flimsy. As it turns out, being highly flexible was a huge advantage.I installed these from the living room side while replacing old ceiling speakers. I knew I had blown-in insulation, but I had no idea how much had settled into the old speakers and limited the woofer motion. These hats were easy to fit through the existing 8.5 hole, and the flexible ring around the base quickly popped them into an open position. The unstructured sides easily accommodated pipes, wires, and joists that were near the speaker openings, and the thin vinyl is more than sufficient to keep the insulation from settling into my new speakers. For a couple of the speakers where I wanted a little more of a thermal barrier, I cut some pieces of 2 fiberglass batting that I added before inserting the speaker into the opening. It probably wasn't needed, but I had it handy and it only took an extra minute or two.If you have blown-in (loose) insulation and ceiling speakers don't have a closed back, you should definitely consider a product like this to keep the insulation from settling on and in your speakers.

These are a little bit big for the speakers they cover. I guess I was just envisioning a tighter fit? And the price is awful high for all they are HOWEVER, they do what I wanted which was keep the insulation off my speakers so they're OK I suppose as they do the job
