I prefer the older mechanical map wheels over the newer digital ones. It's more durable (I've dropped mine a couple of times), waterproof, costs less, doesn't require batteries and is much simpler than fumbling with all the buttons and settings. Just set the hand to 0, place it on a map, and you're good to go. I use mine for trail running and hiking so I don't need every conversion rate known to man. This one looks and works great, the wheel rolls very smoothly and is fitted well so that it does NOT loosely roll around when holding it vertically in the air which is important because it could cause the hand to randomly spike back and forth and lead to inaccurate readings.I was surprised to see that the other side has another dial as well which includes statute miles, nautical miles, and kilometers from an inch to mile wheel. This map wheel is also physically much smaller than I judged from the stock photo (which is a good thing) so I will upload additional pictures for anyone who is considering purchasing this one.
