Ordered this product after checking out most of the other similar ones. The installation was slightly tricky on my late 70's 9.9 Evinrude. Due to drill clearance issues for the drilling of the front holes. I would suggest the use of a small pilot drill, even though you are only drilling aluminum. But being careful it's easily done if you take your time. I was pleased with the improvement in performance the product produced.

I have a Mercury 4 stroke 9.9 outboard on a 12' valco boat. I had a hard time getting the boat on plane even though I adjusted the trim on the stern bracket to the lowest holes. I was skeptical about the hydrofoil and hesitate to drill holes on my motor. The great reviews here convinced me to give it a try. I am very impressed with the difference it made. I notice huge speed improvement because I am able get on plane immediately and the boat remains on plane at a lower speed. I would recommend this product to anyone.

I had significant problems getting on plane with a 9.9 Johnson on a 12' Starcraft when no passenger was in front. This solved all my problems. Now I'm cruising along at close to 20mph

The part wasn't described right on the money. The reason I'm giving three stars is it didn't work the way its claimed to. With one person it comes right to plain. An with two it just don't want to come right up to plain it takes about 100 yards. Not much different then without it. I put it on a 14ft Lowe with a 20hp mercury.

It did what the package said it would do. Let me give you an Idea of my application, I have a 14 ft Crestliner Sportsman DLX aluminum boat with a 2002 Mercury 15hp four stroke on it. The boat is set up with a lot of weight in the back, it has 3 gallon gas tank, 2 deep cycle batteries and of course me (about 195 lbs) and my son (45 lbs). The boat would have a really hard time getting on plane. I would have to lean forward or it wouldn't get out of the hole. I was hesitant drilling the holes in the beautiful engine but it was worth it. Word of advice; measure twice and cut once. I had a problem with the hardware during installation. I would drill one hole and then snug a bolt in place to then measure for second hole. I had to remove and replace the bolt four times to get it right however on the third time the lock nut fouled and locked up on the bolt. I had to drill it out to remove it, BE CAREFUL the bolt heated up during drill process and begun to melt the plastic. It worked out after I got new hardware at the hardware store that was more heavy duty than what comes with it. On my initial test run I was pleasantly surprised, I didn't even have to lean forward in fact I leaned back and it smoothly pulled out of the hole and on plane in about half the original time like the package claimed. It didn't affect my top speed of 20mph plus or minus and it does stay on plane at slower speeds. The best part is the increase in control of the thrust, the boat turns very fast and maintains speed all the way through the turn. Before I was hesitant to turn too fast because of cavitation but now I can really pull hard on the tiller at full throttle. I read a lot of reviews online before choosing this product, from what I can gather these hydrofoils work best on boats that are underpowered and have a lot of weight in back. In a perfect world I would have a 30hp on my boat to be sufficiently powered especially when I have more people in the boat, 15hp isn't enough ever with the hydrofoil. Overall I am happy with the product and would recommend it to people with similar situations to mine. Good luck!

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He recently finished building his boat (14.5 ft, wooden runabout). He found an old 40 horsepower motor that works great. The boat just wouldn't get on plane easily enough and with more than 3 people. We worried that we wouldn't be able to waterski. This hydrofoil is awesome and it fixed our problem. The boat gets on plane in a snap with it. Now we're just waiting for warmer water.
