This 500 GPH fits into the same base as an older May Fair 600 GPH pump. Johnson apparently bought the old company and kept making the same pumps with the same dimensions. The advantage here is that if you have a May Fair or Johnson pump the pump can be replaced by turning the pump a quarter turn and the new pump can be installed with an opposite quarter turn twist by hand. The mounting for a bilge pump is way down below the engine and on most boats mounting the pump at the lowest point in the bilge is difficult if not impossible. If the pump is mounted where it is easily accessible it does not sit as deep in the bilge and all of the water cannot be pumped out. The first pump lasted 24 years and this pump has the same design and maybe a little better quality.

I ordered this pump to replace a similar pump used on a livewell, the base is interchangeable toeither hook up and use as a bildge pump or aireator pump. The pump did very well.

I just ordered a new one of these pumps for my OMC Sunbird after 23 years. The only reason I needed a new one is the switch was left on with the boat out of the water by mistake and it melted down. In case you did not see my first sentence.... 23 Years! And it is made in the USA!

you do not necessarily get the one in the picture. Model i received did not have a barbed outlet fitting, but had a threaded one. Had to go get a 3/4 threaded to 3/4 barbed fitting adaptorwhich was more of a hassle than i would like since i specifically figured this had a barbed fitting.
