I was looking for a topical cream for my dog who gets itchy spots at least once a year which left unattended can cause him to chew, lick, and scratch his skin and hair away. He is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, so these hairless spots also caused him to have sun burns making his itchy spots look worse then they were. Plus my dog hates sprays so the lotion formula was not stressful to him.I started applying this to his naked skin about once every 24 hours to once every 36 hours depending on which spot started itching sooner then the others. After about 3-4 days of this his itches were gone. I had gone to give him a bath maybe a week later and some of his itchy spots became dry again, so I reapplied to only those spots using the same routine for 2 days. Worked perfectly. If your pet gets wet while they are still in the first stages of applying this lotion, dry them off really good with a towel and reapply if they seem overly itchy. Another tip is once applied, keep your dog occupied until the lotion has enough time to soak in so it is not licked away or put a cone on their head :)Before I found this, I had been trying various skin healing lotions which seemed to work ok for a few hours. I then had to take my dog in for an ear infection and did not get see our regular vet that day. This other vet ignored my explanation of what was going on (sun burn + dry skin. His skin looked awful that day flaking and red) and swore he had mange. I told her my other dog did not contract this (and it has been months since the itching started). She proceeded to tell me it could be a non contractable variety of mange that puppies some times get and grow out of (my dog is about 4 years old). I gave her the go ahead to run 2 skin tests, one done at the vets with immediate results and then another that was sent to a lab. She could not find anything but minute traces of bacterial and yeast (probably spreading from the ear infection when he scratched his ear with his foot). She send me hom with meds for the ear and a shampoo for the skin which did not work. Now he is virtually itch free and growing his hair back in time for summer. The lotion seems to be less greasy compared to human skin reparative lotions.

I like this a lot better than the spray version. My dog has a chronic itchy spot, and I need to put this on every week or two. Sometimes for a few days in a row, depending on the season. Works great.

First things first, our little 4-legged child (if you will) is a Yorkie and she has skin issues over anything else (Never found any flees or any other creatures on her) but she use to scratch more than normal, wow I/we felt so sorry for her just to watch the forever scratching/itching she was doing, until one day I(Old Man Me: Bob in Mesa,AZ) found this 'Excel Itch Relief' in the small 4 oz container and gave it a try, and to my great surprise it 'WORKED" our little 7-year old Yorkie doesn't scratch nearly as much as she use too, guessing 50% or better less. (of course regular bathing and daily brushing helps too) I think one can't do without the other, meaning the 3 i.e. Bathing regularly, brushing daily AND Excel Itch Relief Spray with Hydrocortisone!!!!!(Sorry but I'm not to good with spelling things, hope you can understand what I wrote)
