Listen up my avian friends i never thought in a million years that i'd be purchasing a critter cage for my fids. But i have to tell you with bar spacing at 1/2in in diameter and the ladder included along with the shelf this REALLY can be used for birds...!!! It's very EASILY modified into a very nice indoor/outdoor aviary. My IRN or Indian Ringneck & Green-Cheek Conure have PLENTY of room in this cage to move around and it's extremely strong & durable. Sure there are no "designated places" for stainless steel food & water dishes but again i stress the word "modify". All you do is purchase the stainless steel dishes that attach with a wing nut to the outside of the cage and VIOLA your done it's that simple...!!! The only reason i didn't rate this 5 stars is because there is no pull-out tray and i HIGHLY suggest you wait to clean the tray until your birds are safely back indoors but that's common sense anyways. Listen folks, i've spent the last 30yrs in the avian field having "hands on" experience with both wild & exotic pet species. And i can tell you without hesitation that this cage is solidly built and at an AWESOME PRICE AND CAN BE SAFELY & EASILY MODIFIED FOR BIRDS TO USE...!!! That's the main reason i got this because it has 90% of the "functionality" of a regular bird cage minus the pull-out tray. However, how many bird cages out there this size can you get for this price that includes; locking wheel castors, 1/2in bar spacing, extremely durable and strong wire, beautiful finish, and most importantly a cage with HORIZONTAL BARS ALL THE WAY AROUND which birds need more than anything else. Vertical bars are horrible on parrots that are trying to climb around since they slide right down them. However, this cage doesn't have that major issue which is PERFECT for parrots that love to climb and it's a no wonder they love being in it. Some other "minor" modifications i've done was adding a happy/snuggle hut, any toys were VERY easy to hang from the top, and i can even say if you have a small wooden play stand that in itself could "probably" fit right inside of this cage. There are just so many possibilities with this cage for birds and most importantly it's safe. I would NEVER put my fids in harm's way and i researched this cage from top to bottom for any flaws that birds might come across being put into this thing and i couldn't find anything that would warrant not using it for them. So if your looking for a cheap cage that with a "little" modifying can be turned into a great indoor/outdoor bird cage don't hesitate in purchasing it you won't be disappointed...!!! Oh and one last very important note, i would NOT put any birds larger than what i have inside of this cage. In other words, no smaller than a Lovebird and no bigger than an Indian Ringneck or similar sized Conure.
