I really like this fish vacuum. I use it in both my 10 gallong and my 50 gallon tanks. Before we had a larger one which was terrible for the small tank and not great for the larger one either. This pump lets me take as much time as I need in eitehr tank to move around and make sure I get everything vaccuumed up. I also find and this may be becuase of the smaller size that it is much easier to prime and get going, my old one I used to have to suck on which was disgusting.

This vacuum may be small but it has a lot of power. It only took me a couple of minutes for it to empty one gallon of water from the tank.Getting it to work was simple but after that, it was a little tricky to get the debris out of the gravel in the aquarium. You really have to dig it in there and hold it so it works and it doesn't really pick up the debris that is floating in the water. The first time I used it there were kinks in the tube and it directed water out of the bucket when I was focused on sucking debris. This was easily fixed by running the tubing under warm water and pulling it straight.I would only recommend this product to people with tanks 30 gallons or less since it would take a while to empty a large amount of water out or to clean all the gravel.

it works really well for my 10 gallon fish tank,it can be a little tricky to get the siphoning to start, you just have to have it on a big enough angle and underwater completely. don't get discouraged and think it's broken because it won't start sucking, keep trying it will eventually work.Overall AWESOME!

This is a very simple product - a cup with a hose. No moving parts, hardly anything to break - I do not know why pet stores what to charge so much for this. I have done about 10 water changes/gravel cleaning using this with no problems. It does take a while to get a hang on how to create a vacuum but once you get it is like riding a bicycle. This is what I do: I set up a bucket on the floor. Place the end of the hose in the bucket and place the vacuum in the tank. Raise and lower the vacuum INSIDE the water at a constant speed. Not too fast or too slow. When you are at the right speed you will start to see the water level raising and eventually going into the hose. Once you start getting water in the bucket - you are good to go.

Bought this for my 10-yr old son to use for cleaning the gravel in a 2 gallon goldfish tank (which is bowl shaped.) It works well, easy to get it started and has surprising suction for such a small simple device. As well as it works, I think it's too large to use in the small bowl that we have. The vacuum cylinder/cap assembly is too long to easily move around in the small bowl while maintaining suction. This vacuum won't work for us, but only because of the size and shape of our particular tank.

If you have a small tank- I recommend this! The suction is good once you finally get the water to pump through- you gotta jerk your arm quiet hard to get the thing going, but other than that, it works just fine.
