We have a long-haired tabby that sheds heavily in the Spring. This tool with its sawblade edge, really takes off the loose hair and doesn't seem to bother the cat at all! The rounded head is small enough to use on areas that the big rectangular brushes don't reach. Not recommended for regular grooming (there are other more conventional brushes by the same company that do that very well!), this 'shedding blade' performs as advertised, is affordable, and I highly recommend it.

I bought this brush/blade about a month ago in an effort to try to get rid of more cat dander from my two, medium haired cats. I was a little iffy about the way it looked design-wise, but it works well. It seems to be able to get more of the undercoat and dander free than our normal, $5, wire brush and my cats really like it. One of them just loves attention so she doesn't dislike any brush I've tried, but even my picky cat (whom I usually have to hold down to brush) will hold still and knead the couch/my leg as I brush her with it.You do have to be more aware of the hair you're freeing since the shedding blade doesn't catch them, but I just pet the cats after every few brushes and collect it in a hairball til I'm done.My least favorite thing about it is that it is kind of sharp (of course, it is called a shedding blade) and you have to be careful not to brush too hard or you'll hurt your cat. It isn't a big issue for the average cat owner, but my 3 year old is not allowed to brush the cats with it and I have to keep it hidden from him. -An issue that probably won't affect too many othersI don't have a lot of experience with other nice brushes/blades that help with shedding, but this one works well for me and my cats.

This works GREAT for my one large short hair cat, who has a thick coat, and a fine undercoat as well. I use this (which he LOVES), and it's like there's a whole second cat's worth of fur that comes off. Yes, you have to grab the fur since the brush doesn't hold it, but that's a minor issue for me.On the other hand, my smaller cat has a very silky, smooth, short coat with practically no undercoat, and this does absolutely nil for her.So if you have a cat with a lot of shedding undercoat, I highly suggest this. If not, move along.

I have a very good brush I have used on my cats - a fine toothed rake which gets lot of loose fur. I used to swear by it, until someone let me use this JW blade. The cats like it better and it gets more fur faster. The "blade" actually has small jagged teeth and the cats love it, even on their tummies. You can swipe much faster and it gets more fur with each swipe. The best part is that it doesn't "clog up" like the rake brush, which I have to clean every few swipes to get the fur out of it.

I read many shedder reviews before I bought this item. My concern with ones that said that they removed tons of hair, the little metal comb razor type ones, is that reviews said they pulled out TOO much hair and left the coats unhealthy. This definitely removes a lot or hair. I get a good hand full of dead hair when I brush for 10-15 minutes. My cat, Izzy, purrs and purrs when I use it when usually he attacks combs. He just doesn't like it on his hips. The circular shape allows the "blade" to hit the coat twice with one stroke.FYI the tool is a circular blade about an inch deep that has medium zig zag teeth along the bottom edge. I use mine about once a week, and I figure getting a handful of hair off Iz is one less handful of hair that's not behind my dresser.Probably the only shedding blade I'd recommend for people who want happy, healthy pets and aren't just concerned with ripping out every loose hair to protect their furniture.
