First, I'd call it more of a riding crop than a whip. The shaft is semi-rigid, much like the end of a fishing pole, with the popper tied to the end. The handle and shaft are 36" long and the popper is roughly 5" and replaceable if it ever wears out. Since this is not a whip, don't expect to be able to snap it like you would a bull whip. I got it to help keep our three dogs wrangled in when we take them on trips. I use it around the house when I want them to move into/out of/away from something by swishing it in the air a few times then tapping it on their rears to encourage them in the direction I want. No reason to actually smack them with it, they don't like the swishing noise it makes in the air, so it's the perfect tool to train them to "do what he tells me when he raises that blasted whip"!For less than $10, it seems really well made. Had it for a few weeks now and the handle-shaft connection seems strong and durable, the handle appears to be holding together nicely and if/when the popper frays/wears out, it can easily be replaced. Would certainly recommend if it fits your needs.
