The ECUSB3S2 ExpressCard USB 3.0 Adapter lets you add two USB 3.0 ports to your laptop through a 34mm ExpressCard slot.

Enhanced with UASP support (USB Attached SCSI Protocol), this USB 3.0 controller performs up to 70% faster than conventional USB 3.0 when paired with a
UASP supported enclosure
(Note: UASP requires a compatible operating system). Using a more efficient protocol than the traditional USB BOT (Bulk-Only Transport), UASP technology optimizes transfers by allowing multiple commands to be processed simultaneously, significantly increasing transfer speeds for less wait time on data transfers. See our UASP test results below for further details.

Featuring a native NEC host controller chipset, the USB 3.0 ExpressCard adapter is compliant with USB 3.0 standards for data transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps, while still offering backward compatibility with existing USB 2.0 / 1.1 devices.

Backed by a StarTech lifetime warranty and free lifetime technical support.

Improved Performance with UASP

UASP is supported in Windows® 8, Server 2012 and Linux kernel 2.6.3 or later. In testing UASP performed with up to a 70% faster read / 40% faster write speed over traditional USB 3.0 at peak performance.

UASP Speed Diagram

At the same peak in testing, UASP also showed up to an 80% reduction in required processor resources.

UASP Speed Diagram

Test results were obtained using an Intel® Ivy Bridge system, StarTech add-on USB 3.0 cards, a UASP-enabled StarTech enclosure, and a SATA III solid state drive.
The StarTech Advantage
  • SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connectivity at up to 5Gbps on any ExpressCard enabled PC
  • Small form factor that fits in 34mm and 54mm ExpressCard slots for versatility and portability
  • Time-saving file transfers, up to 70% faster than traditional USB 3.0 when used with a UASP-supported enclosure

The USB 3.0 adapter defintely adds speed to USB 3 devices. But the driver for the card was not included on the enclosed CD and the USB connections on the card are very flimsy. I am afraid it will not last very long.

I have been using this card for over a week now with my Dell Latitude D830 notebook and it works fast and great. I am using it with a new USB 3.0 Western Digital 1TB external drive. I use it mainly for data mirroring and image backup but I also use it for video file capturing while I am converting my VHS videos to MPEG2 files. for the sake of curiosity I also tested it with AVI files and according to my Ulead videostudio program not one frame got dropped. The only problem right now I am having is which is not the fault of the express card but Dell design, that once I have this card plugged in the laptop, I cannot use the audio out jack to feed my external speakers. (I will have to find a way to extend this adapter card somehow, or get either a USB or firewire audio solution to get the sound to my external speakers.I am recommending this card.
