I've been in audio for a long time, back when Altec Lansing actually made Speakers...This speaker is an awesome replacement for anyone who has an older cabinet with speakers that have rotted foam surrounds etc, or if you're building your own cabinet.I have a pair of old Speaker Lab cabinets and decided to replace the woofers because of rotted foam surrounds and have to say that the replacements sound better than the originals, and I helped pick out the originals which where awesome. At the time foam was a popular surround but after time the foam broke down and disintegrated, not good. These speakers use Butyl Rubber surrounds which will last a very long time and hold the speaker in a more stable track resulting in less distortion and more linear travel.I have 2 of these hooked up to a 1,000w Sub Amp and they can take whatever is thrown at them. What's really great about them is the excellent translation of subtle sounds as well as high transient spikes. Before you go waste your money on over priced speakers, you should give these a try!
