Product Description

Manufacturer Part Number: DSS4-BK

Dayton Audio DSS4-BK Black Speaker Spike Set 4 Pcs.By rigidly coupling a loudspeaker enclosure to a floor by means of a "spiking" system, it is possible to dramatically improve clarity, stereo imaging and bass response. This is very apparent with subwoofer systems. These attractive spikes are precision machined from solid brass and then plated with a durable black finish. Each cone spike weighs 86 grams and measures 1-1/4" diameter and 1-1/2" tall. The two piece threaded tip design allows for precise level adjustment. Barbed insert nuts and threaded studs are included for mounting in cabinets with walls up to 1" thick. Set includes 4 black cone spikes, 4 black floor discs, 4 insert nuts and 4 threaded studs. Threads are M6.

These seem to work well getting my subs off the thick carpet, although whether they improve sound or not is up for debate. Its a nice set.

I installed these on a Velodyne subwoofer and am very happy with the result. They suspend the subwoofer over the carpet so there is a 3/4 inch gap between floor and speaker. Sound has improved and so has the look of the subwoofer- my opinion. My only caution is that these things are very pointed (for a purpose of anchoring to the sub-floor). Be careful once they are installed. Between the weight of the subwoofer and pointed ends, any electrical cord left underneath them could be history. The tips can be adjusted to level the speaker, or angle the front upward, which ever you prefer.

Application: hard wood floorSpeakers: KEF 104.2The KEF's are 70lbs each and all that weight focused on 4 sharp points anchors them solidreleasing the excellent inherent Bass and Midrange, probably the best value improvement I have made. The cones are Brass with adjustable tips to level the speakers and for $50 for 8 a great price.I can now feel the bass come through the speakers and not released to the floor and the surroundingfixtures and a sharper midrange. I had made my own sharpened spikes but Dayton's sound much better in Midrange and higher.Spikes work by preventing the speaker from ocillating with the movement of the speaker cones. Two other good payback improvements have been the V-DAC and the APC LE1200 1200VA Voltage Regulator.

Want your sub to hit the lows, and hit tight? All subs on carpet need these to penetrat to the wood floor. Otherwise the carpet absorbs much of the bass....and thats no good.

I used these as spikes (on carpet) for my sub wolfer for my surround system and the sound from it improved tremendously. Easy to install also.
