I have been building computers for many years but this is the first one that I had an IDE hard drive that was intended to be used with a new motherboard without any IDE sockets. Motherboard has only sata connectors. (I should of looked closer, huh? ;-) Anyway, I had to find something to tie the two together & this product worked perfectly to fulfill my need. This versatile product also works both directions. You can use an IDE drive on a Sata Mobo or you can use newer Sata hard drives on an older motherboard. Only downside to this item is lack of documentation. You have to look very close at the controller card itself, but it does show how to connect either sata to ide or ide to sata. The included power cable is connected to a molex connector from PSU & straight to the mini white connector on the control card (This powers the control card, not the hard drive). The sata cable of course connects the control card to either a sata hard drive or to the motherboard if using an ide hard drive. Depending on your application you also will need to attach either a sata power plug or a 4 pin molex plug to your hard drive. As I said, the power adapter that comes with this is to power the controller card, not hard drives.Bottom line: This product works & works well + LOW price = recommended by me!
